1. WHY WE CHOOSE THIS RESORT?

• However the reason we choose heritage marari was because we were travelling with a very young kid we were looking for kitchen service right next to our suite. We found it only with this resort and hence we choose this staycation. It was also an amazing experience where me and my husband made a biryani in their kitchen and we all had a dine out together. which is very rare in other luxurious resorts.
• Also, even though it appears simple and some parts of site are under construction, it has a few view points that are very interesting within the resort.
• The resort arranges the majority of the facilities, whereas other resorts will not be able to entertain small things that may still be important for certain people.
• Except for the essentials, I was not looking for a room with a pool or any additional amenities attached to the suite. I also had an image in my head of a contemporary-looking washroom with all of the traditional old touches. This has been on my mind since I began planning the vacation.

Safety & security –

• Because it was in the heart of the village, connecting to other small shops was only about 15 minutes away. More importantly, it felt extremely secure.
• The Heritage Marari is located very close to the beach. However, due to the shallow shore, entering Chety Beach is risky.

The resort we went was Heritage Marari, Kerela 

There were things that were quite appreciated.
There were also things that were really a big pain.

2. THE CAREGIVERS :

The best part was the stay and the hospitality. We were under the care and service of Mr. Renjith Ramanan and Rahul. They made our entire stay pleasant. The food served to us throughout our stay was extraordinary. We had a fantastic time here, whether it was our stay, the food, or the organization of special events for us.

Mr.Renjith was kind enough to arrange Siddha medicine for my daughter’s minor health issue. So that made the trip even more memorable. It felt like home. Despite staying in a remote island resort, I never felt disconnected from home or fearful of anything. It felt like we were the special guests. The resort owners were also kind enough to make sure that our stay was pleasant. Right from the day I started planning for the trip, Mr. Bruce was very helpful and guided our trip wisely, as if it were our own family. This is something I look forward to during a staycation, especially now that I have a baby.

3. HOW TO REACH THIS PLACE :

The location is quite remote from railway lines and airports. While going to marari we wanted to go by train to give my daughter a different experience. Despite the fact that it was a high risk for me, I wanted to give it a shot. Because traveling to Kerala by train during the non-summer season is a great idea. Because the route follows the entire Konkan route, it is very green and you can keep looking around the entire time. Whether it is ac or non-ac. My daughter had never taken an express train before this trip. because we have always preferred flights because they save us time and energy and make things easier for our child.

By Rail-

So we arrived at Allapuzha station and booked a cab through the ticket counter service outside the station. It took about 25–28 kilometers by road to get to this remote interior location. But I was surprised by the population density over here. They were super packed all around. It was mostly residential blocks, with resorts in between. So, despite the fact that they appeared lonely and deserted, there were people around. Safety and security matter a lot when we are travelling with a kid.

By Air-

While returning, we switched to our default mode of transportation, i.e., airlines. We flew out of Cochin International Airport, which is supposed to be the only nearby airport. The other, Trivandrum Airport, is like going to the end and then going backwards. It took us about 3 hours or so to get from our resort to the airport. We only stopped for 30 minutes to go shopping and eat lunch. Then we boarded our flight and arrived in Mumbai in 2 1/2 hours. It wasn’t a good day for us, as we were heavily stuck amid the huge traffic in Mumbai the same day. Despite driving at a good speed, it took us 3 1/2 hours. Otherwise, returning home from Mumbai Airport takes only up to 45 minutes for us.

So travel was really hectic. I had meticulously planned the trip because I now know how to manage any type of travel.

4. THE LOCATION :

The site was well planned for a location like this. The entrance was extremely welcoming. The landscape was the best part. With all of those tropical plants in their garden, it gave me a tropical vibe. The climate is also identical to that of a tropical lagoon. It felt like I was in Tuscany during the day and on the tropical island of Bali at night.

Being a nature lover, I adore traditional and culturally inspired architecture. Unlike the typical mouth-watering restaurant menu, I enjoy comfort food. Enjoyed the earthy elements, such as the soft sun, the smell of wet mud (earth), and the cool breeze in a warm environment. Such an environment truly refreshes your soul. Every trip I take gives me the impression that you are looking for a fresh start in life. To me, choosing a destination means choosing one that is appealing and has a variety of features.

The canal that runs through the center of the site requires proper construction. Otherwise, everything was fascinating. but that’s no big deal.

5. WHAT WE DID IN MARARI, KERALA:

In Allepey (Alappuzha), we went boating.

We rented a bike and swayed around with it everywhere. But, once again, it was a tragedy because the weather in the evening was extremely unpredictable. It begins to rain with thunder out of nowhere, and our entire evening is ruined as a result. We had to look for raincoats and then wear them, so things got a little messy. But we managed it.

Temples and churches.

We chose some stunning traditional temples. The architecture was beautiful. It felt divine in the land of “God’s own country.”. We got to meet Lord Muruga and Goddess Shakti. Lord Shiva and Ayappa were also present. I also got to meet my favorite Lord Vishnu. My daughter enjoys doing more of what I enjoy doing, and my husband joins us in everything while we are on vacation. Churches were very inspiring and gave me too much Christian devotion. The church architecture was stunning. Alternatively, you can keep spotting temples and churches every 5 minutes.

Shopping.

As I knew there would be little of my interest in shopping in Kerala, the only thing I was looking forward to were some antiques and Ayurvedic medicines. I was happy with my purchases of a few excellent items on my list and did not feel like shopping for spices because we were flying back and it would have been a nuisance to get through security. Instead,  got some herbal oils and an ayurvedic chooranam for my daughter.

Ayurvedic spa. 

I took an Abhyangam with 100 essential herbs in the specially formulated oil. Spa treatments are reasonably priced. As a blogger, I also received some discounted rates.

Farming.

We went to spend time with ducks. Quack-quack was all around us. Oh my god, there were a huge number of ducks and gooses. If not for my daughter’s wish, I would have never gotten to hold a duck in my hand. a duck, just like the ones we saw in our nursery school books… My dear daughter is a huge fan of ‘Hinka’—that’s how she refers to ducks since childhood. We also saw turkeys, quails, different types of rooster, hens, chicks, ducklings, puppies, kittens, lambs, cows, and calves.

They gave us a ‘Cocomelon’ (nursery rhymes channel) vibe. My little girl could not have asked for anything more. She had a great time and will remember this trip for the rest of her life. It had long been her dream to meet and carry a duck. However, it is never easy to find or keep a duck in a city. But now our daughter’s dream has been fulfilled.

Clam farming.

I feel gunk with slugs and clams. So is my kid. My husband is resistant to them because he enjoys oysters and clams as seafood. Clam farming is something we could see here. Oysters and snails are well-known for their medicinal properties, so seeing them in such large numbers is surprising. children may or may not find interesting.

Elephant riding.

A ride on an elephant costs between 400 and 600 rupees, depending on the terms. It will also be very fun and memorable for kids. It really feels massive when you are riding on top of an elephant. Seeing wildlife throughout the ride is an enjoyable experience.

International choir musuem.

The museum also depicts the evolution of the coir industry and its traditional processes, such as retting and fiber extraction, as well as the introduction of mechanization in the coir sector. There are various types of art forms made from coconut fibers. Things made out of coconut fiber or coconut shells last a lifetime. Being the land of coconut trees, it appeared to be a highly sustainable reuse of coconut scraps being put to creative use. One can also purchase a soveneir from here.

Handloom sarees.

They were far too expensive for a single-color soft silk saree with a minimal border. I am wondering if the prices for heavy work silk sarees are exorbitant. When it comes to silk and colors, Tamil Nadu has a high-quality, affordable, and lightening collection. I would not recommend purchasing temple jewelry or silks from here.

Ottamthullal show.

Mridangam, Elathalam, and Maddalam are among the musical instruments used. Among Kerala’s traditional performing arts, Thullal stands out for its wit, humor, and ease of presentation. Ottanthullal plays are treasured and adored for their humor, style, and social commentary. My daughter had an amazing experience with the show, as she was too imitating what the artist was performing. We enjoyed the show from the comfort of the resort where we were staying, without having to travel, buy tickets, or worry about seating. That was the best part, when the caretaker brought us this special memory by organizing an evening show for us.

6. FOOD EXPLORING 

“You don’t need a silver fork to eat good food.”

Someone said it very well: South Indian foods taste more satisfying when combined and eaten with your fingers. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala all have similar food and eating habits. Believe me, the authenticity must be preserved in order to enjoy the flavor so, don’t hesitate to use your fingers.

To get to the point, all we had in Marari were authentic Kerala-style recipes. Despite the fact that most of the recipes I like are from our traditional taste, the food I had here was a unique experience.

7. COTTAGE AND OTHER ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES

1. Everything I admired was from an architectural and interior design standpoint. As an architect, my observation and admiration are constant.
2. I loved the traditional architectural features over here. It gave me a cultural and country-life vibe. The use of antiques in this newly constructed resort is a unique feature.
3. Only the restrooms were modern. Because the water pressure at this location is low, a bathtub could not be installed; otherwise, the washroom was quite large.
4. The use of skylights in the washroom and dressing area provided natural lighting. This kept the use of electrical lights away.
5. It was more interesting with windows on all sides and doors on three sides of the wall.
6. Everything was done in a traditional style.

So far, so good; despite the fact that it was a long and stressful journey, I thoroughly enjoyed it and returned with happy memories to last a lifetime.
